BREAKING: Mr. Badger Selected for Limited-Edition
Bank of England £20 Notes

The distinguished mascot of The Fat Badger pubs is reportedly set to appear on a special run of £20 notes as part of a wider British Wildlife and Fictional Characters initiative.

In a surprise expansion of its recently announced British Wildlife on Banknotes initiative, the Bank of England has reportedly confirmed that selected batches of limited-edition legal tender will also feature iconic regional fictional wildlife characters from across the UK.

Among the first to be approved is Mr. Badger of The Fat Badger, the distinguished top-hatted publican and long-standing mascot of our pubs, who will appear on a special run of £20 notes entering circulation later this year.

The new notes are said to celebrate characters that have become part of Britain’s cultural and regional identity, recognising beloved local wildlife figures that represent hospitality, heritage, and community spirit.

Sources suggest Mr. Badger was chosen for his outstanding contribution to British pub culture, refined taste, and continued support of good ale, stunning food, and excellent company.

Collectors are already predicting the note could become one of the most sought-after modern releases, with rumours that other fictional wildlife figures may also appear across future denominations.

Other fictional wildlife characters tipped for the wider series

  • Paddington Bear – rumoured for a commemorative London issue
  • Peter Rabbit – linked to a Lake District regional release
  • Toad of Toad Hall – strongly tipped for a £50 countryside edition
  • Basil Brush – reportedly under review for a special children’s charity run
  • Mrs Tiggy-Winkle – suggested for a northern heritage issue
  • Mole (The Wind in the Willows) – linked to a River Thames collector batch

The Bank is yet to formally announce the full list of characters expected to feature across the wider rollout, but anticipation is already building among collectors and pub-goers alike.

Customers are being encouraged to keep an eye on their change over the coming months, as the first limited-edition notes are expected to quietly enter circulation in selected regions.

For regulars of The Fat Badger, it may not be long before Mr. Badger turns up in the next round. In the meantime, why not book your table?
