CYCLING

Seasoned cyclist or not there’s plenty of routes to enjoy.

Easy cycle path: Harrogate to Ripley on the Beryl Burton Cycleway

A fantastic route along four miles of converted railway line, the Harrogate to Ripley cycle path takes you past Bilton, North Harrogate and Knaresborough. From Ripley you can connect to the Way of the Roses cycle route to the north, or head west for the stunning Yorkshire Dales.

Easy road cycle: York Millennium Bridge to Naburn Swing Bridge

This is an easy eight-mile route, and takes about 40 minutes each way with a café/picnic stop at Naburn Old Station, suitable for most ages and abilities.

Easy off-road cycle: Swinsty and Timble

There’s a 5.6 mile network of trails around the Swinsty reservoir – perfect for a family ride through the woods. Stop off at the Sun Inn at Norwood after the ride, or take a picnic to have at the water’s edge.

Hard road cycle Tour De France Stage 1 Route

Test your legs on the opening stage of the 2014 Tour. The Yorkshire Grand Depart Stage 1 goes from Leeds to Harrogate, the long way round. The route is 119 miles in all, so pack snacks, a puncture repair kit, and plenty of determination.
